ZeroAvia has outlined its 2025 strategy, focusing on four critical pillars—hydrogen infrastructure, regulation, policy, and investment—to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen aviation and achieve the industry’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. With aviation contributing up to 4% of climate warming when including non-CO2 effects, the urgency to implement hydrogen-electric propulsion technology is paramount for a sustainable future.

The Four Pillars Driving Hydrogen Aviation Advancement

  1. Hydrogen Infrastructure: Building scalable and cost-effective hydrogen production, storage, and refueling systems is crucial. ZeroAvia’s partnerships, such as those with Airbus and major Canadian airports, are pioneering the early-stage infrastructure needed to support commercial hydrogen-powered flights.

  2. Regulation: Regulatory frameworks are evolving rapidly. The FAA’s Hydrogen-Fueled Aircraft Safety and Certification Roadmap and ZeroAvia’s participation in the UK’s Hydrogen Sandbox Challenge reflect a global push for certification readiness and harmonized standards by the FAA, UK CAA, and EASA.

  3. Policy: Strong government policies, like the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act and the UK Hydrogen Strategy, are essential for scaling hydrogen aviation. These frameworks support investments and public-private collaborations that make hydrogen-powered flight commercially viable.

  4. Investment: With $1.2 trillion needed by 2030 and $10 trillion by 2050, significant capital must flow into hydrogen technologies. ZeroAvia highlights the eightfold growth in hydrogen investments since 2021 as evidence of the sector’s immense economic and environmental potential.

"2025 must be a year for thinking more ambitiously,” ZeroAvia states, calling for accelerated advances across technology, infrastructure, and regulation to ensure hydrogen aviation achieves its transformative potential.
