HYSKY Society is thrilled to announce that Dr. Ashira Beutler-Greene (AIAA), Dr. Phillip Ansell (University of Illinois), and Elias Waddington (University of Illinois) will lead a featured lecture in the H2 Aviation Policy & Power cohort launching April 14, 2026.
Understanding Policy Gaps in Hydrogen Aviation (and What to Do About Them
The lecture, “Understanding Policy Gaps in Hydrogen Aviation (and What to Do About Them),” will take place on April 21 and is open to the public at no cost.
As hydrogen aviation continues to advance technologically, policy and regulatory frameworks remain a critical barrier to deployment. This session will present findings from the team’s research on how current U.S. policy structures impact the development and adoption of hydrogen-powered aircraft—and what must change to enable progress.
Dr. Ashira Beutler-Greene of AIAA
Dr. Ashira Beutler-Greene is Senior Manager of Aeronautics at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a Visiting Scholar at The George Washington University Space Policy Institute. Her research focuses on how policy frameworks shape emerging technologies across aerospace, energy, and international systems. She serves on multiple advisory and research boards, including the Transportation Research Board and the Global Entrepreneurship Network’s Space program.
Dr. Phillip J. Ansell
Dr. Phillip J. Ansell is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Director of both the Center for Sustainable Aviation and the CHEETA program. An AIAA Associate Fellow, his work focuses on sustainable aviation technologies, and he has received numerous honors including the AIAA Lawrence Sperry Award and recognition on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in Science.
Elias Waddington
Elias Waddington is a PhD candidate in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois whose research focuses on defining what sustainable hydrogen aviation looks like in practice. His work spans aircraft design, propulsion systems, life cycle emissions, and systems integration, with multiple publications on liquid hydrogen aircraft and hybrid-electric systems.
“This lecture gets to the core of the problem,” said Danielle McLean, Founder & CEO of HYSKY Society. “We don’t just need better technology, we need a clear understanding of the policy gaps that are holding hydrogen aviation back, and a path forward to close them.”
The H2 Aviation Policy & Power cohort is a three-week program designed to teach participants how federal policy actually works and how to influence it. The program culminates in a capstone Virtual Fly-In, where participants engage directly with Congressional offices.
While the full cohort is a paid program, the April 21 feature lecture is free and open to the public.
