HYSKY Society is proud to announce that Bill Spellane, former COO of Alaka’i Technologies and a pioneer in hydrogen-electric aircraft development, will serve as an instructor for the H2 Aircraft Certification Short Course, running August 26 through September 11, 2025.

Spellane will lead the session on Certification of Electric and Fuel Cell Propulsion Systems, drawing on his direct experience building and planning certification strategies for Alaka’i’s SKAI hydrogen-powered eVTOL platform.

Bringing Real-World Hydrogen Aircraft Into the Classroom

During his time at Alaka’i Technologies, Spellane:

  • Helped lead the development of SKAI, a hydrogen-powered eVTOL designed for 400+ mile range using liquid hydrogen fuel cells

  • Oversaw flight testing, system integration, and early-stage certification strategies

  • Advocated for hydrogen as a practical, scalable fuel solution for vertical takeoff and landing aircraft

  • Presented at the Vertical Flight Society’s H2-Aero Symposium, bridging the gap between hydrogen propulsion systems and regulators

His instruction will focus on fuel cell integration, certification of electric propulsion systems, safety challenges, and lessons learned from SKAI and other industry case studies.

“Bill is helping the entire industry understand how to certify hydrogen aircraft,” said Danielle McLean, CEO of HYSKY Society. “We’re honored to have him teach this course alongside some of the top minds.”
