Airbus has issued a call to U.S. engine manufacturers, urging them to ramp up efforts in developing hydrogen-powered engines. As the aerospace industry moves towards decarbonization, Airbus continues to lead the push for hydrogen as the fuel of the future, recognizing its potential to drastically reduce emissions and transform aviation.
The European aerospace giant has already made significant strides in hydrogen technology and is now encouraging U.S. engine makers to follow suit. By increasing investments in hydrogen propulsion studies, Airbus believes the aviation sector can meet its ambitious climate goals and ensure the successful implementation of hydrogen-powered flight within the next decade.
Speaking on the matter, Airbus Chief Technology Officer, Sabine Klauke, emphasized, "Hydrogen represents a clear path to achieving zero-emission aviation. We are committed to driving the industry forward, and we need the engine makers to step up and align with this vision."
Hydrogen propulsion is seen as a key component in Airbus' broader plans for sustainable aviation, with the company targeting the entry into service of a hydrogen-powered aircraft by the mid-2030s. The success of these efforts depends heavily on the development of hydrogen engines, making collaboration with engine manufacturers essential.
