Hydrogen Fire Safety Short Course (Online)

  • From 2 December – 18 December 2025 (3 Weeks, 6 Classes, 12 Total Hours)

    • You can watch replay of any missed lectures. No need to attend live.

  • Every Tuesday and Thursday at 12–2 p.m. CDT (all sessions will be recorded and available for replay; course notes will be available for download)

  • This is the first comprehensive course dedicated to hydrogen fire safety in aviation,  designed for industry professionals and regulators.

  • All students will receive a Certificate of Completion from HYSKY Society.

Overview

The Hydrogen Fire Safety Short Course provides a comprehensive foundation in the hazards, standards, and emergency practices required for safely integrating hydrogen into aviation. Covering hydrogen’s unique fire properties, codes and standards, detection and suppression technologies, firefighting practices, and emergency response, this program equips students with the knowledge to mitigate fire risks across hydrogen aviation systems.

This training is essential for aircraft developers, safety engineers, regulators, airport firefighters, hydrogen producers, fueling operators, MRO professionals, and anyone preparing for the safe integration of hydrogen into aviation.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this short course, students will be able to:

  • Understand hydrogen’s unique fire properties: ignition, flammability, and dispersion.

  • Apply NFPA, ISO, SAE, and ICAO codes to hydrogen aviation fire safety.

  • Evaluate detection, suppression, and containment methods for hydrogen fires.

  • Assess hazards in LH₂ tanks, gaseous storage, and distribution systems.

  • Integrate hydrogen safety into aircraft, hangars, and airport operations.

  • Develop emergency response strategies for hydrogen-related incidents.

  • Examine future fire safety standards, R&D needs, and policy harmonization.

Audience

This course is intended for:

  • Anyone preparing for or interested in hydrogen aviation fire safety

  • Aircraft developers, safety specialists, and regulators (FAA, EASA, ICAO, NFPA, ISO)

  • Airport firefighters, emergency response teams, and fueling operators

  • Hydrogen producers, compliance/risk managers, and MRO professionals

  • Pilots, engineers, and managers seeking safety literacy
