Mesa, AZ - On Wednesday, January 25th, 2023, the 10th Biennial Autonomous VTOL Technical Meeting & 10th Annual Electric VTOL Symposium hosted a groundbreaking panel discussion on the future of hydrogen aviation. Danielle McLean, CEO of HYSKY Society, moderated the panel, which included top executives Elizabeth Collins of NREL, John Piasecki of Piasecki Aircraft, and Alex Ivanenko of ZeroAvia.

McLean kicked off the panel by explaining why hydrogen is the only fuel that can power life-saving all-electric flights, as batteries cannot meet the necessary range. The panelists then shared their perspectives on the advancements and challenges in the hydrogen aviation industry, and how hydrogen can play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and increasing sustainability in aviation.

Ivanenko discussed ZeroAvia's recent success in conducting the world's first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft test flight, while Piasecki highlighted Piasecki Aircraft's expertise in developing advanced VTOL aircraft. Collins shared NREL's research on the technical and economic feasibility of hydrogen fuel cell systems for aviation applications.

The panel sparked lively debates and ideas on how to further advance the growth and development of the hydrogen aviation industry. The panelists emphasized the need for collaboration among industry, government, and academia to drive innovation and progress in the field.

The HYSKY Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing hydrogen aviation across North America, is proud to have contributed to this important conversation on the future of hydrogen aviation. The society will continue to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and education on hydrogen technology and its applications.
